Spicy Uno (and other games)

Updated: Jan 31, 2022

Spicy Uno, a revamped version of regular Uno, is a Clinton Science Olympiad staple. While each member has 2-4 events to complete throughout the day of the competition, there is still plenty of down time for the rotating group of students in the team room. A game most of the competitors are either well versed in or taught quickly as the round commences is Spicy Uno. The rules are simple, you play Uno as usual with a few added twists:

  1. After a 5 of any color is played all players must be silent until a 7 of any color is played

  2. A 4 of any color indicates that every player needs to smack their hand on the deck, the last person to place their hand down being the unlucky soul that must pick up an extra card from the unused pile

  3. If a 1 of any color is played, the person that played it may swap their hand with any other player that they so choose

  4. Similar to rule #3, if a 0 of any color is played, every player must rotate their hand one person in whichever direction the game is going at the time

  5. At the placement of any card, an IDENTICAL card can be placed by any player wanting to jump into the action

  6. Going off of rule #5, if the IDENTICAL card that you place is a +2 or +4 or any type of + card, any additional + put on the pile by any player will add to the amount of cards the person who does not have another + card will have to pick up

  7. Last, but the very opposite of least, when a player is in need of a card to put down, all other players may provide them with"the right card". (They do not necessarily have to be truthful ;) )

In addition to Spicy Uno, Olympians will play other classics such as Avalon, a social deception game perfect for nerds, and Egyptian Ratscrew, a game perfect for people who like to smack others' hands!

The freshies also like Catan ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
